Vmware Fusion Export Virtual Machine

Dec 03, 2021

Problem

I currently use VMware Fusion 6 on my Mac OS 10.9, and when I try to export a VM to an OVF file, the option doesn't seem to be available when I run it. (I can mount the vm in VMware, but not put in into VirtualBox for instance.) Is there another way I can export this vm?

Solution

cd /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/VMware\ OVF\ Tool/

./ovftool <PATH TO SOURCE VM's .vmx file> <PATH TO OUTPUT ova file>

# example

./ovftool --acceptAllEulas ~/Documents/Virtual\ Machines.localized/CentOS\ 6.5.vmwarevm/CentOS\ 6.5.vmx /tmp/CentOS6.5.ova
